In my case my child weighed A LOT!. He was long, wide and large. The doctors predicted my child could grow to over 11 pounds in weight if I went full term. So breach was predicted to be life-threatening. Having had three healthy children normally, I didn’t fancy their next suggestions. Either we turn the baby now (three weeks before delivery) and then all should be ok, or you are having a casearian delivery because his head is really large and the consequences of a breach birth will mean compression of the umbilical chord and likely brain damage to the baby.
Well faced with the lack of options, I went through the proceedure of turning the baby in utero. I have provided you with a fantastic link below which shows a lady successfully going through this proceedure quite nicely.
For me the proceedure was slightly more painful because of my baby’s size (to give you an idea, I slept propped up on five pillows from five months pregnant because I couldn’t lie down. I had double the amniotic fluid and they said I looked like I was having twins! Oh joy. They turned him beautifully, but being an individual he decided to turn himself back around in the middle of the next night. Very much like having eaten a cow sideways and wondering why you are waking up looking wider than you went to bed, then feeling like your innerds have been compressed, elongated and then normalised the wrong way again.
Consequently my baby was scheduled for cesaerian two weeks early. Yes he is healthy, he weighted 9 pounds at birth and as he had been growing at a pound a week before this, with a huge head, I believed I had made the right choice for his health in going through the surgery. Not my idea of fun though. However that is another whole story I won’t proceed with. Suffice to say I am more the Earth Goddess birthing mother type and prefer the natural way. That to me was much easier.
I hope you enjoy this link. It really is quite lovely to hear the dad encouraging the mum and see her coping really peacefully with the baby turning. Also great to see and experience a compassionate doctor. The information attached to this link is also really helpful and informative. This isn’t a squeamish video, but lovely so you can dare yourself to watch it. http://www.metaspoon.com/
